National Dog Day:  26 AUGUST

Every year on August 26, we celebrate National Dog Day to encourage people to adopt dogs instead of buying them from pet stores.

Stanley Coren, a psychologist and a leading canine researcher, says that a dog's mind is similar to that of a 2- to 2.5-year-old human child. But each breed is different in how smart it is.

Colleen Paige has also founded other such days, like National Cat Day, National Wildlife Day, and National Puppy Day.

There are a lot of dogs on the streets that don't get the care they need. They also don't have enough food. Most of the time, they have to drink dirty water and look for food in trash cans. They are even mistreated.

National Dog Day brings attention to the problems that dogs face and encourages people to take better care of them. Not all dogs are lucky enough to be adopted by humans and get good food and shelter.

Quotes: “Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” – Roger Caras “A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” – Josh Billings

Tips to Celebrate: Adopt a dog from the animal shelter near you, no matter what breed it is. Donate food and blankets to an animal welfare organisation.
